Head of Production and Chief Lighting Engineer

The Vogue Theater in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a new Head of Production and Chief Lighting Engineer.

Located in the Broad Ripple neighborhood of Indianapolis, The Vogue is one of the most popular and storied music venues in the Midwest. The Vogue originally opened as a movie theater on June 18, 1938 and today is considered the top destination for live music in Indianapolis, winning countless awards and earning the accolades of local musicians, industry leading DJ’s, and nationally touring artists.

A key component in the success of The Vogue is the success of the performances that we are lucky enough to host.  The Vogue’s Head of Production and Chief Lighting Engineer is ultimately responsible for that success and for insuring all aspects of live music production and events at The Vogue are carried out at the highest level.  The Vogue’s stage production team, currently consisting of our Sound Engineer and Stage Production Manager, report to the Head of Production.    

Specific job responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and implement production plans in coordination and cooperation with artists, artists’ representatives, artists’ technical personnel and other talent/guests performing at the venue.
  • Assemble and prepare show documentation including but not limited to run-of-show, input sheets and stage plots; distribute to tech crew and associated staff.  Insure adherence to run-of-show plans.
  • Establish crew calls for rehearsal and events.
  • Coordination between Vogue in-house production team and production personnel of artists/talent performing at The Vogue.  Serve as the key production liaison between the Vogue/Vogue team and visiting artists.
  • Facilitate enhanced communication/collaboration between technical disciplines in support of performances.
  • Design and program lighting for on-stage performances.
  • Maintain excellent working relationship with Vogue personnel, guests and vendors.
  • Technical lead for all aspects of audio and lighting production systems.
  • Coordinate with the partners, operating partner, general manager, and talent buyer(s) all technical aspects for live performance and other events requiring production both on-site and off-site.
  • Ability to step into each crew role, including load-in/load-out, audio engineer, video director, technical director, lighting designer, lighting programmer.
  • Maintain system documentation including but not limited to audio and video input patch and routing; lighting plots, instrument schedules, dimmer schedule, channel hook-ups.
  • Set-up and tear-down of staging and technical equipment as necessary.
  • Assist in the inventory and security of all production and technical equipment.
  • Responsible for maintenance, upgrade, installation of AV equipment and infrastructure, and training staff in its use.
  • Attend leadership meetings to plan, strategize and offer best recommendations for plans of action regarding various events and operations.
  • Work with vendors/partners to price and attain equipment/services for events as needed.
  • Familiarity with, operating and maintaining all of The Vogue’s in-house stage lighting and live-stream equipment (inventory list below).
  • Primary point of contact for artists to assist and support in production needs.   
  • Manages and directs, hires, trains, disciplines and (if necessary) terminates production support team.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ten+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and live even or theater experience
  • Ability to lead, train and manage production team.
  • Ability to professionally and competently interface with artists, agents, management & production teams while onsite at The Vogue.
  • Must be proficient with the Google Office toolset: Gmail for email communication; Google calendar, Google Drive for cloud storage; plus Excel and Word; and various video-conferencing tools.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • General computer networking knowledge.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be available for minimal travel and flexible work hours.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
